Two's a Crowd

. . . at least in a sleeper car.  Forget images of elegant wood-paneled cabins large enough for 10 people to stand around stabbing a bad guy [scene from "Murder on the Orient Express"].  Boy howdy was that a tiny room.  "How tiny was it?", I hear you ask:  So small that it was impossible to sit, though one could lean against the sink; so small that only one person could stand at a time; so small that the only way we could photograph it was in sections (couldn't get back far enough), or in the mirror.

 Here's the mirror shot.

Before we settled in MF and I took a walk through the train and when we returned ALL of our stuff was gone.  We checked with our conductor, the stand-up comedian, who said (in German), "Oh Gott, all your stuff is gone--Catastrophy!"  before telling us that there were two cars with identical room numbers and we were in the wrong one.

Eddie Izzard look out--This guy is after your job.

In the middle of the night some sort of alarm sounded.  Both MF and I jumped up (as much as was possible);  I thought it was the wake up call, but when I asked the time, MF said--"it's 1:71", so I went back to sleep.  I was too disoriented to notice that it's never 1:71.  Neither of us slept much last night, but we both thought the beds were comfortable as long as we were prone.

At 7 a.m. we arrived in Munich and changed trains for the remaining 3 hours to Vienna--gorgeous countryside, but unfortunately no pictures: it was, after all, a very fast train.
